Having recently undergone a very extensive refurbishment and new build, the original 'Beachcomber Suites Hotel' on Paynes Bay, St James, has been transformed into the 'Number One' Luxury Apartment Hotel on Barbados, and has now been reopened and renamed 'The St James'.
This is a high quality establishment, which has attracted an unprecedented volume of excellent comments from the industry, the media, the local population and our guests. Both the interiors and the exteriors of the property have been completed to the highest standards and convey a friendly atmosphere of quality, comfort, elegance and style. To complement this building, The St James is positioned on one of the finest Beaches on the Island, at the centre of the fabulous 'Gold Coast' and looks out across golden sands and the renowned calm waters of the azure coloured Caribbean Sea on the West Coast. Our guests have a wide stretch of beach on which to relax on their sun loungers under sunshades.
An added attraction for the St James is the intimate presence of a large family of friendly turtles who have made their home in the waters in front of the hotel. The opportunity to swim with the turtles each morning has become a unique experience for our guests.
So, start your day with breakfast in the privacy of your own balcony, overlooking the Ocean, then you are free to relax in the tropical sunshine on the golden sands. A few steps out from The St James and you are swimming in crystal clear, calm waters, with the turtles to keep you company. When evening approaches, wander down to the beach with your favorite sundowner in hand, and sit and watch the sunset. Then fix your own barbeque on the sands and dine under the stars, with the gentle sounds of the ocean around you
2-Bedroom Apartments (Accommodates 4 people and an extra bed)
Our main block comprises of six two-bedroom apartments, all of which are Ocean Front, looking out towards the sunset in the West. There are two of these apartments on each floor (Ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor).
On the ground floor are Apartments Number 1 and Number 2 and these are popular for families with children.
Apartment Number 1 (North side) has large, comfortably furnished lounge and dining areas. The lounge opens out through double French Windows, onto a spacious patio, with dining facilities and comfortable lounge chair. The patio leads directly on to the deck and beach.
The main bedroom has Queen sized double bed and en-suite bathroom. There is a toilet and bidet and bath-tub/shower. The second bedroom has 42inch wide, twin beds and has a separate bathroom with tub/shower.
Apartment Number 2 (South side) is comprised of a living /dining room not as large as in apt 1, but quite spacious and airy. Lounge opens onto patio through double French windows. The patio has dining furniture and lounger, and opens on to deck and beach, as in apt 1.
The main bedroom has queen sized double bed and en-suite bathroom with tub/shower, toilet & bidet. The second bedroom is small but comfortable, with standard, 48 inch, double bed and separate bathroom with tub/shower.
Both apartments have large, fully equipped, open plan, Italian made kitchens equipped with dish washer, large fridge/freezer, microwave, 5 burner electric hob, electric oven, blender, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, toast-R-oven broiler, pots and pans, etc.
Apartments Numbers 3 (North) & 5 (South) on the 1st floor
Apartment Numbers 6 (North) & 8 (South) on the 2nd floor
These four other apartments are identical, except for left/right mirror imaging and furniture colours. Each has large, comfortable, bright and airy lounge/dining areas with double French Windows opening out on to large balconies with dining and lounge chair facilities. The kitchens are as in the ground floor apartments above.
Main bedrooms are very spacious and have American, King sized beds and stylish en-suite bathrooms with tub/showers, toilet, bidet. Second bedrooms are comfortably large and have 42 inch wide twin beds and separate, large bathroom with power showers.
Studio apartments - Numbers 4 & 7 (Accommodate 2 people).
Also in the main building, we have 2 studio apartments. They are located one on each of the 1st and 2nd floors and are virtually identical except for furniture colours.
Both have balconies looking out over the beach and Ocean and provide the best out-looks on the whole of the West coast. Each balcony has dining furniture and lounge chairs.
The interiors are standard, large sized hotel rooms with Queen sized double beds, dining and sitting areas all within the one room. There are separate, small, but sufficiently spacious and comprehensively equipped Italian kitchens.
Bathrooms have tub/shower and Italian tiles and counter tops.
The Annex
The Annex is adjacent to the Main block and consists of 3 floors. We do not have an elevator in the Annex.
Courtyard Studio - Apartment Number 9 (Accommodates 2 people)
Located on the ground floor , this is our least expensive apartment and is excellent value for money. The entrance door opens out onto the courtyard/car park. The apartment does not have a view to the Ocean but is just 20 seconds from the beach.
The studio comprises a single, spacious room with Queen sized double bed and dining/sitting areas. The adjacent kitchen is open plan and adequately equipped to easily cater for up to 4 people. There is a modern, fully tiled bathroom with shower stall. Despite being our least expensive apt. #9 has all the facilities of our other apartments: Satellite TV, Stereo/CD player, ceiling fans and split system air conditioning units, etc.
1-Bedroom apartment - Number 10 (Accommodates 2 people & extra bed in lounge)
Located on the 1st floor, this apartment carries a generously sized lounge with comfortable furnishings and kitchen bar stools. It is very bright and airy. A single French window opens from the lounge on to a Juliet balcony, which runs across the length of the building and looks down onto the courtyard. Double French Windows open into a separate, enclosed dining area with a pleasant view across the gardens to the Ocean. The kitchen is very spacious and well equipped. It is open plan and has a view through the dining area to the sea.
The bedroom is a separate room which opens off the lounge and is spacious and comfortable and has a Queen sized double bed. There is a modern, bright bathroom with shower stall and full tiling.
1-Bedroom Penthouse Apartment - Number 11 (Accommodates 2 people & an extra bed)
The penthouse is located on the 2nd floor and is an open plan apartment with a very ‘happy’ feel. It is large, airy and very bright, with windows all around, vaulted ceiling and wooden floors and excellent furnishings.
The open plan kitchen is integrated with the lounge and dining areas and is large and stylish, with bar counter. The lounge has a single French Window opening on to a Juliet balcony running the length of the building and looking down onto the courtyard.
The bedroom is in an adjacent sector and can be partitioned off by ceiling to floor curtaining. It has a Queen sized double bed and vaulted ceiling.
The bathroom is of very high standard with bathtub/shower, tumbled marble tiling and Italian marble tops and ‘Sotini’ sanitary wear.
